‘Major’ SimCity Update Coming Next Week
A “major” update will be released for SimCity next week. According to a post on the SimCity forums, version 2.0 will launch on Monday, April 22nd at 1:00 p.m. Pacific (4:00 p.m. Eastern) and contains “a number of top-requested bug fixes and improvements.”
“Because this is our first significant Update, we wanted to inform you in advance that we’ll be taking down all servers for a few hours while these changes are being issued,” Maxis warned. “Choosing a time to issue a major Update is never easy, but after looking our peak player time, we’ve concluded 1pm PST is the best window for us to make these improvements.” The post added that “the wait will be worth it.”
Among the new additions are Mayors driving fancy cars to work (or taking helicopters, limos or sports cars “if the modules are present”) and new HUD and data map changes. Maxis has also fine-tuned Casinos (which now make gambling a more profitable specialty) and Tourism (changing the fluctuation or tourists as well as how they’re counted on transit).
Other changes are coming to Education, Recycling, Transit and much more. You can find the full patch notes in our SimCity wiki.
